Stand in awe… this Sunday!

This week the world has stood guard at the door of the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital, awaiting the arrival of baby Cambridge. What a media fanfare it has been.  I have watched the energy level of by-standers and reporters escalating to the point of (near) hysteria in anticipation of that first view of this future king of England.   Running concurrently with the wonderful news of this miraculous birth, regardless of the home into which he has been born, has been the deep awareness of the setting in which our King was born.  Could they be more different?  No Lindo Wing, no bed, no CNN breaking news; just cloths . . . and a manger.  Simple.  Did our Savior deserve to be born in a Lindo Wing or something more palatial?  Yes.  Would God plan to have His royal son delivered there?  Evidently not.  Why?  I do not fully know.  This I do know.  I will never know baby Cambridge.  He will never be able to fully identify with my suffering.  Though beautiful, he is not divine and though good, he will never be good enough to atone for my transgressions.  Baby Cambridge doesn’t know me, but the baby of Bethlehem does.  We have an appointment with him, together, this Sunday.  Can you believe it?  Stand in awe.

Worship Summit and Worship Leadership Bootcamp

Worship renewal seems to be on the forefront of many minds these days. I know I am encountering and being challenged by this in my classes at the Institute for Worship Studies on a regular basis. “What is worship renewal?” is a fair question. In our society I think we are slowly emerging from the long-held, wellworn term “worship wars.” The enemy has kept us divided far too long over the very thing that delights the heart of God—worship. We shouldn’t be surprised. After all, he is cunning and deceptive and will use any means possible to keep us from getting to the heart of God and entering fully into the dialogue of worship.

Coming to the UHBC campus on Saturday, August 24 are two wonderful, state-wide, training opportunities facilitated through the Music and Worship Team of the North Carolina Baptist State Convention. I will post the link below where you can find additional information, but here’s the gist of what will be taking place. Please consider one of these two track options and use the link to reserve your place:

Worship Summit
Who should attend?

We recommended that you bring many people from your church, especially church leaders. During this time they will wrestle with critical issues and discuss implications on their local church’s worship.

Saturday, August 24, 2013
8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
University Hills Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC

Cost: $5 without lunch, or $12 with lunch. On-site registration is $8 (lunch not available with on-site registration)
The cost includes the Worship Summit handout, dinner. and a $10 LifeWayWorship download card.

Worship Leader Boot Camp
Who should attend?

Your worship leaders – band, singers, technicians, pastor – should attend the Worship Leader Boot Camp to further gain a grounding in musical issues that will provide tools for worship renewal, particularly focused on moving a church from a group of spectators to a body of active participants in worship.

Saturday, August 24, 2013
8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
University Hills Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC

Cost: $25 until August 11; $30 after August 11
$30 on-site registration (no lunch guarantee)

Either conference would be great for you to consider attending, including students.  I hope you will avail yourself of a reasonably priced, local training event such as this.  Take a closer look via the link.  Of course, feel free to call me @ 704.517.5227 or Kenny Lamm, Worship Consultant, Baptist State Convention of NC @ 800.395.5102 if you have additional questions.  Here’s the link for additional information:
